PuzzleSprout Privacy Policy
PuzzleSprout is built for children ages 3–9 and their parents. We designed it around a single principle: we do not collect personal data — especially not from children.
What we do NOT collect
- No name, birthday, email, phone number, or address
- No photos, camera, microphone, or contacts access
- No advertising identifier (IDFA), device ID, or location
- No account or login — the app works fully on your device
- No third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs
What stays on your device
Everything a child creates or plays with — profiles (a nickname you choose), puzzles, badges, and progress — is stored only on this device in the app’s private storage. It is never uploaded to us or anyone else. We do not sync to iCloud.
A child profile holds only a nickname you type (never a real name is required) and an age range (3–4 / 5–6 / 7–9), used solely to pick the right puzzle difficulty. This is not a precise birthdate and is not personal data we collect from the child.
When the app uses the network
The only time PuzzleSprout connects to the internet is when a parent, after passing the Parental Gate, asks to generate new puzzle art. In that case we send a minimal, non-personal request: the age range, the theme word you typed (e.g. “ocean animals”), how many pieces, and your language. No child data, no name, no identifier of any kind is ever sent. Generated artwork is downloaded once and then everything — cutting, playing, badges — happens offline on your device.
The child mode of the app contains no network access at all.
COPPA & GDPR-K
Because we collect no personal information from children, PuzzleSprout is designed to comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU GDPR (including provisions for children, “GDPR-K”). There is no data to share, sell, or expose, and therefore no verifiable-parental-consent data flow is required for collection — because nothing is collected.
Subscriptions
Optional subscriptions are handled by Apple via StoreKit. We never see your payment details, and we do not use any advertising or tracking identifier in connection with purchases.
Deleting your data
You can erase everything at any time from Parent Settings → Delete All Data. This permanently removes all profiles, puzzles, badges, and progress from your device. It cannot be undone.
Data Retention
This section explains, in writing, how long PuzzleSprout keeps data — a written retention policy as expected under COPPA.
On-device data
All child-facing data (profiles, puzzles, badges, garden, progress) lives only on your device. We retain it only as long as you keep it. There is no server-side copy and no backup held by us.
- You may delete a single profile, which cascades to remove its puzzles and progress.
- You may delete the entire library from Parent Settings → Delete All Data, which erases everything immediately and irreversibly.
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its on-device data.
Puzzle-generation requests
When a parent generates new artwork, the request (age range, theme word, count, language, and a random request ID not linked to any child) is processed transiently to fulfill that single request. It is not retained to build a profile of any user. Operational logs, if any, contain only the random request ID, the theme, the age range, and a success/failure status — never a name or identifier — and are kept only for short-term service reliability.
Generated artwork
Finished artwork is delivered once via a short-lived signed link (valid up to a couple of hours) and then downloaded to your device. After download, the copy on your device is the only copy, under your control.
No advertising or analytics retention
Because we run no advertising or analytics SDKs and use no IDFA, there is no behavioral or tracking data to retain — none is ever created.
About AI-Generated Content
Some puzzle artwork in PuzzleSprout is created with the help of AI image generation, so you know exactly where your child’s content comes from.
How it works
- Your child never interacts with AI. Generation only happens in Parent mode, after you pass the Parental Gate, and only when you choose to make a new puzzle.
- When you generate, we send only a theme word, an age range, a piece count, and your language — no child data of any kind.
- The AI returns a single illustration. The rest — cutting it into pieces and turning it into a playable puzzle — happens on your device, with no AI and no network.
What you control
- Every generated puzzle is shown to you for review before it can ever reach the child’s library. Nothing a child sees is unreviewed.
- You can reject or delete any generated puzzle at any time.
Safety
Generation requests are guided to be child-friendly, and themes that aren’t appropriate are declined. Because you review every result, you remain the final decision-maker for what your child plays with.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll let you know in the app and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
